Wedding logo a-go-go

You may have noticed that I've been a little food-focused lately. I've been reading a bunch of really interesting food-focused books and blogs, doing some recipe-focused stuff at work, and loving the fact that its springtime, there have been parties to bring cupcakes to and there are farmers markets.

Also, I think I've been a bit burned out on wedding planning. Most of the "critical" elements are already in place -- the venue, minister, caterer, band, photographer, videographer -- and at this point, its so far out that nobody seems to care much yet except for my mother, so I decided to give myself a monthlong holiday from wedding stuff. Well, the month is almost out and my Brides.com timeline is screaming at me again. But on the bright side, most of the things that need to be done in the next month or so involve lots of fun -- flowers(!), cake (!!) and the wedding Web site (!!!).

This one gets me most excited mainly because my multi-talented and ever-so-gracious groom JiT has offered to design the site. So far, he's purchased our url and put up a temporary page, but I've heard him muttering things like "flash animation," which gets me excited.

In the meantime, what also gets me excited is the logo he's designed for us. This was an idea I shamelessly copied from a friend of mine (one of my bridesmaids) who was married last fall. Every item related to her wedding....from her invitations to the programs to the stickers on the favor bags seemed to be plastered with a simple logo crafted from the bride and groom's initials.

What an easy way to give nearly everything in your wedding a signature look -- and rather inexpensively as well. By printing on stickers from an office supply store, you can slap this sucker on just about anything. Heck, you can even have custom postage stamps made for your invitations.

I'm lucky to have JiT, a talented artist and creative director, willing to create our logo but you could certainly dream up something simpler on your home computer by using a distictive font. Or, check with your invitation vendor -- they may be able to create something custom for you and provide as an electronic file for a nominal charge.

This idea doesn't have to die with weddings either. I love the idea of having my own logo for custom stationery, stamps, embroidery....the list goes on and on. And just imagine how much fun you could have creating gifts for friendds.....somebody stop me.
