I WON!!!

I don't talk very much about my company here on my blog -- but I work for a GREAT company. I'm a public relations professional and my company offers some wonderful benefits....

Including a program called "Escape": every year, they ask people to submit essays about what they would do with an extra week of vacation and an extra $1,000. Then they award a few select folks the opportunity to pursue their dream....with $1,000 and an extra week of vacation.

This year, I submitted an entry asking to visit Tuscany and stay at a working farm that offers cooking classes, tours of local vinyards and cheese shops, and other Foodie fun. In addition, I wanted to try to meet some of the Italy-based bloggers that I regularly follow and document the entire trip right here on my site.

Well (if the title of this post didn't give it away)...I WON!!!!

JiT and I are already starting to talk details. We'd been thinking we'd honeymoon someplace a bit closer to home, but to accomodate this opportunity we're shifting gears. We still need to nail down the details of course, but at this point....it looks like at the end of next March, we're Italy-bound!!!

In addition to our little Tuscan culinary adventure, we're hoping to do some of the normal sightseeing stuff, some SCUBA diving (which was our original honeymoon plan) and maybe some golf.

If anyone has visted Italy and has done any of the activies I've just noted....PLEASE share thoughts, ideas, etc. We're so excited and so very thankful to my company. Thank you Edelman Public Relations...you ROCK!

  4. OMG - Now that's really amazing and awesome for someone I just recently met but kinda adore!

I've been to Italy twice. Once when I was 14 (so, I'll skip those experiences) and once a few years ago to celebrate my dad's 60th birthday. We stayed in Rome and to be honest? I was underwhelmed. I mean, it's amazing and beautiful and there are some great places to eat and all that. But, it's also ridiculously touristy and I hate that shit. I want the right to shoot anyone with a fanny pack. Period.

Go to Florence. That's my advice. I thought it was so much more visually pleasing than Rome. And I'd go back there in a heartbeat.

    Happy planning!

  6. How amazing! Congratulations! As a side note, I spent five years in PR. Edelman has always had a great rep and this just strengthens that opinion! I spent a summer studying in Perugia which is the capital of Umbria. You'll find the Perugina chocolate factory along with a great, little-big city. Not too touristy. My parents did a week in Italy at a cooking school/vacation type place. I'll try and get the name and send it your way. Again - congrats!

  9. I want to be the official 10th commenter to here, as promised last night. I've already told you (in a high pitched tone) how excited and happy I am for you but it's totally true. You absolutely deserve this and I can't wait to hear all about it. Another awkward hug is coming. Beware.

  11. Also, I agree with Nilsa- Florence is definitely more lovely than Rome. I also spent a week in Cinque Terra (the fishing villages along the coast) and they were absolutely... breathtaking.

Any travel guide (lonelyplanet etc) will recommend them, but they were surprisingly unbusy when we went.
