Gift Idea: The Three Bs

Now that the holiday season is fast approaching (unbelievable as that may seem), I'll be posting some of my favorite gift ideas on a more regular basis.

Generally speaking, whenever I give a gift, I like to create a little package. A few items that go well together, and I love to create gifts based on things that I myself enjoy that I think others might like as well.

This particular gift is one of my all-time favorites: a half-bottle of champagne (bubbles), a "bath bomb" (more bubbles), and a really good book. The idea literally occurred to me while I was sitting in the tub one night, reading a book and sipping a glass of wine (one of my favorite ways to relax...no to mention warm up...in the wintertime). I figured, its one of my favorite ways to relax, so I bet that many of my friends would appreciate the idea as well. That year, I gave this gift to nearly all of my girlfriends and female co-workers.

Getting into the particulars, my preference is for Moet & Chandon White Star champagne, which is available in "splits" (a half bottle...about 2 glasses) at most good liquor stores. Its pricey but very, very good. But you can choose whatever brand at whatever price you prefer. I buy "splits" instead of full bottles because, assuming the recipent will be drinking this alone in the tub, they really don't need a full bottle.

As for the "bath bombs," these are available at almost any bath & body store these days....usually in a variety of colors and scents. You throw the little ball into the tub and it fizzes and melts, releasing its wonderful color and scent into the water. My absolute favorite is made by the store Lush. Its purple and filled with confetti, so that when it dissolves, it litterally leaves the bathwater bright purple and sparkling...its like taking a bath in a disco ball. I don't care how bad of a day you've had, you can't possibly be upset while taking a bath in a purple, confetti-filled tub. If you can't find "bath bombs" in your area, any sort of good bubble bath makes a nice substitute. Or, follow the instructions provided here, but the total genius blogger Not Martha, to make your own, homemade bombs. Very cool.

As for the final "B", the book...this part is optional. I've given just the two bubbles as gifts, wrapped together in cellophane or snuggled into a little basket, and its an impressive and thoughtful gift on its own. But, if you really want to go crazy, add in a good book. Preferably something mindless, indulgent and addictive (like everyone's favorite teenage vampire series).

Frankly, this is such a universally appreciated gift for women, I usually keep a few bath bombs and little baskets on-hand for last-minute gifting. Swing by a liquor store on your way to a party, tuck the two Bs to a basket and you've got an instant hostess gift. Plus....you may also want to keep a few of these around for yourself, just in case.

#1 I love this SPECIFIC idea...amazing and makes me wish I had a bathtub because Lush's bombs smell so good. And seriously, when is Champagne with a side of Cullen not appropriate?

#2 I love the idea of grouped gifts- still loving the Mexican-themed hostess gift idea from over the summer!

Hi There! I found your blog via Chickbug, and I love reading! And...this is a GREAT gift idea! Thanks so much for posting! It's thoughtful, and fun, and provides a bit of indulgence that the recipient might not always do for herself! Thanks again...I'll be picking up a few of these on the way home from work, I think! ;)

Too cute!! I think I will have to buy all of those things for myself now. I mean, everyone's raving about the book, I could always use a bubble bath and we all know I never turn turn champagne...
