Is it wrong that I food style my 17-month olds breakfast? A breakfast that quickly devolves into this:
Anyway, junior foodie has recently entered a new stage of food independence. Apparently there is a brief and secret-to-all-but-her list of acceptable foods. At breakfast, her preferred meal of choice is granola with yogurt and fruit. Frankly, Greek yogurt is a 24/7 request right now but at breakfast it better come with granola and some fruit (she likes blueberries, I prefer apples and cinnamon).
I’ve talked about the granola before and the recipe can be found here. It’s very adaptable to whatever nuts and sweeteners you have in the house.
In addition to being a fabulous breakfast with yogurt, it’s wonderful with a splash of milk, and makes a fabulous topping for muffins or an apple pie.
Granola keeps well so it also makes a lovely holiday gift as an alternative to Christmas cookies. Double the recipe and wrap small amounts in cellophane bags or cute vintage jelly jars with some raffia or festive ribbon. I may actually take my own advice on this one….if my child doesn’t eat the entire batch first, that is.
