Max turned four last weekend. Since his two favorite things in the world these days are fast cars and Jimmy John’s sandwiches, those became the centerpiece of our low-key Freaky Fast Fourth Birthday celebration. After years of complicated parties with clever themed food, decor and activities, I’ve finally learned that all the kids really want is time to play freely with their friends and eat cake. So thats what we did. And it was perfect for our laid back little man.
Max continues to be our sweet little dude. He takes pleasure in simple things (mainly $1 Hot Wheels cars and a Jimmy John’s #12 no cheese). Shockingly self-sufficient, he was 100 percent potty trained a full month shy of four and is always happy to dress himself for school. This year he discovered dinosaurs and truly great friends. He’s become comfortable leaving my side for school, camps and classes with hardly a look back.
Already a guy’s guy, he loves all manner of sports and cars and speed and ranch dressing and pizza and sweatpants. He has become a notorious fixture around the neighborhood, tearing down the sidewalks on his scooter, wearing his bright green stegosaurus mohawk helmet. He is quirkily funny and surprisingly entertaining. All balanced with the sweetest heart. HeĀ is my cuddle buddy and my lunch date.
He will always be my baby. But I am awestruck by who he’s becoming. Happy birthday Maxwell!
