An easy No-Sew Cloth Face Mask tutorial you can complete in just a few minutes using a bandana or piece of fabric and rubber bands or hair ties.
Last week, the CDC updated their recommendations for U.S. residents, recommending that everyone make and wear a face mask when going out in public. But if you don’t consider yourself especially crafty, this may feel like an overwhelming project. Luckily, there are some wonderful No-Sew Cloth Face Mask options –including this one which is so easy you can make it in under 5 minutes.
How to decide which face mask is best?
- Whether you want to sew something or make a No-Sew Cloth Face Mask, there are plenty of tutorials online including some on the CDC website.
- Whatever style you choose, make sure the mask fits well, covering your nose, mouth and chin.
- The one we are about to make is definitely the fastest and easiest tutorial I’ve come across.
Let’s Make Our Mask!
Materials:
- 1 piece of 100% cotton cloth apx 8” x 8” square
- Choose something with a tight weave that is also soft and breathable — a 100% cotton bandana or hankerchief, a pillowcase with a high thread-count or even an old t-shirt work great.
- 2 hair ties or rubber bands
- I prefer the larger, thinner hair ties because they allow more room around the ears and won’t pull the hair
Instructions:
Start by laying the bandana facedown on a flat surface.
Fold the top half down to the midline, then fold the bottom half up to the midline so that they meet in the middle.
Now, flip it over with the seams facing down.
Fold the top half down to the midline now that the seams are down; fold the bottom half up to the midline again, too.
Flip it over again, this time so that the seams face up.
Feed the first hair tie over the end of the folded-up rectangle. Repeat on the other side with the second hair tie.
Fold the outer sides into the center and tuck one side under the other. This the part of the mask that faces your mouth.
Pick the mask up by the hair ties and place it on your face. Loop the hair ties over each of your ears. Pull on the outer layer of fabric from the center until your mouth and nose and chin are entirely covered.
